My Art Journey

My creative journey has been anything but linear. Born in Millicent, South Australia, in 1963, I was introduced to art at a young age. My grandmother, a passionate self-taught artist, was my first teacher. She imparted invaluable lessons about color mixing, perspective, and the importance of guiding the viewer’s eye through a painting. Her love of art and the Australian Impressionists, particularly Hans Heysen, deeply influenced me and ignited my early desire to become a painter.
As a young artist, I exhibited my work and earned a few awards, but life took me on a different path. I spent many years raising a family and working full-time, during which time my art practice took a backseat. For nearly 30 years, I didn’t pick up a brush or pencil, but the desire to create never fully left me.

A New Beginning

Retirement brought a new chapter—a time to reconnect with my passion. I enrolled in an oil painting class and instantly rediscovered the joy of painting. This rekindled my artistic confidence, and I’ve been fully immersed in my “becoming” ever since.
Today, I work primarily in oils, soft pastels, watercolors, and some acrylics. My current focus is translating the natural beauty around me into expressive, atmospheric landscapes, and semi-abstract and abstract forms. Through my art, I aim to remind others of the beauty of the earth—hoping to inspire a deeper awareness of the importance of preserving our world.

Where I create

Currently based in suburban Adelaide, I’m fortunate to live close to both the beach and the hills, both of which provide endless inspiration. I continue to work on expanding my portfolio and am also developing the artwork for an oracle card deck—a project that’s close to my heart.
My work isn’t just about painting; it’s about building connections—whether that’s through a shared love of nature or the quiet beauty of a well-crafted piece of art. I hope my work helps you feel something—whether that’s calm, joy, or a deeper connection to the world around us.
